Hero

*** Hero is in a foster home. *** Black & white tuxedo, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 5/1/23, #18563 Cats: needs a pal & playmate Dogs: unknown Children: older respectful kids Hero was found on his own near the friendship garden in Balboa Park when he was a kitten; he was crying out with hunger and a concerned park employee called the person who fed the colony of cats living in another area of the park. He wasn't part of that group and it seemed likely that he'd been dumped; regardless, he was at risk from the coyotes who had started preying on cats. He got his name of Hero because he was able to survive for a while as a very young cat in a predatory environment. Hero is a sweet fellow who needs some time and patience to acclimate to change, yet when he's given that time then you'll find him snuggling on the bed with you and the other cats at night. He loves to play with wand toys and other cats and has plenty of youthful energy! While Hero hasn't entirely gained the confidence to regularly approach people on his own, when you go to him then he can easily be petted and loved on, and picked up if he's in the mood. He is getting better about coming to his foster for attention on his own, and will sit on her lap for pets when she picks him up. While he will need continued patience, Hero's sweet nature is as clear as his gentlemanly good looks, and he will flourish when given the encouragement to blossom at his own pace. Hero has grown up with multiple cats of all ages and will need at least one other cat as a pal and playmate. We have not seen him around dogs, though his early experiences may mean he could be wary and we suspect it would be best if his home does not have dogs. Older respectful and loving children would likely be good for Hero as he has lots of energy for playtime. Hero is a handsome kitty who is hoping for a special person to welcome him with open arms and give him the chance to become his best self. Will you be his hero?
