My Story

This is a courtesy listing. Please email [email protected] for more information about Happy. When Happy cries, he can twist your heart. He gives off the aura of being a sensitive cat despite his start in life as an outside kitten. We think he has some Oriental Shorthair in his domestic shorthair mix because he can be vocal, is very quick moving and fine boned. First named "Kitten" when his foster mother cared for him as an outside stray kitten, he was renamed "Happy" when he voluntarily moved himself inside at age one. Neighbors said that he was one of a litter of three kittens born to an outside cat who has not been seen for some time. Although he is a medium sized young adult, very cute, with short, thick white fur and large black markings, he's still growing and is playful and curious like a kitten. He likes his foster mom to pet him but he's often afraid of being picked up, although sometimes he allows it. He's still working on trust and has been indoors for only a month. He was renamed Happy because when he first walked inside his face relaxed from a worried look to a smiling, purring face. The change in his expression was quite noticeable. An affectionate cat, he purrs when petted and loves being inside. He asks for, and is permitted, an outside romp each day, but he races back in within minutes, always with that relieved look on his face. When his foster Mom first met him, the white part of his fur was coated with soot and he had an egg shaped abscess on his back, likely caused by a bite, and another healing puncture wound on his chest. He was given antibiotics in his food and is all better now, but he is still a bit wary of other cats. However, he does peacefully share his room with another formerly outside cat (even though they don't socialize.) Fortunately, Happy is very healthy and has been found negative for FIV and leukemia, was neutered and had all his shots. He is a quiet cat who can live with other cats who are not aggressive or jealous. He'd love a quiet, peaceful home and would return much affection for that privilege. He has no experience with dogs.
