My Story

Let me start off this adoption listing by saying: rescuers need people to adopt the less-than-perfect animals. While Glitter has a home with me as long as she needs one, she would thrive with her own person or people... and it would free up a spot for me to rescue another cat! With that said, here's why Glitter is an almost-perfect cat: She'll greet you at the door when you come home. She is always up to "help" with any household task, and will closely supervise your work. She's silly and playful but not super high energy or rambunctious... she's not the type to climb your drapes at 3 a.m. She's absolutely the type to settle in next to you for an afternoon nap or to binge your favorite show. She's got a great personality and is a great companion. What makes Glitter less-than-perfect is the fact that she has a pretty significant heart murmur (grade 5 out of 6), and she will need periodic check-ups with a cardiologist. She is currently on medication, but she will happily take it disguised in a treat and has quickly learned to hop into a cat carrier especially designated for her to eat her special snack! (So her feline/canine roommates won't steal it... they don't need heart medication!) Glitter was rescued off the streets as a stray. She’s about 2 years old and is currently living with other cats and cat-friendly dogs. More about her heart condition: Glitter has a ventricular septal defect (VSD), which should be monitored regularly. It’s recommended that she see a cardiologist for an ultrasound once or twice a year, depending on the progression. (I took her to CVCA in Columbia, the cost was about $850. Her daily medication is not expensive at all and can be obtained at a human pharmacy.) While no one can predict how these things will go, she's got a pretty significant defect and she's probably not going to live to be 20... but she certainly feels great now and wants to be someone's snuggle buddy! She just needs an adopter who’s willing and able to provide an extra level of care to keep her happy and healthy for as long as possible. If you have any questions about Glitter, you can email her foster mom, Erin, at [email protected]. If you’re interested in potentially meeting her, the first step is to fill out an application, available here: http://bit.ly/pigtowncats
