My Story

Ginnie was abandoned at the Mad River Farm Market and was brought to Paws Animal Shelter so she could find a home when she was a kitten. She was very frightened at finding herself in a shelter, with all the strange people and other cats. While she was in quarantine for the first two weeks, we put a covered bed in her cage, and she hid in it. She then went to one of the kitten rooms, and she still liked to hide in one of the cages (we're a free-roam shelter, so the doors of the cage are open, with a few beds in them). She came out to interact with the other kittens when nobody was around. She is all grown up now and was moved to one of our adult cat rooms, the Catacabana. She has never gotten over her shyness, but she doesn't hide as much in the cages. She likes to lay on the scratching posts now and watch the birds out the window (we have bird feeders outside of all of our cat rooms - Cat TV!). Although she flinches when you first pet her, she does enjoy being petted, and she quickly starts purring! I was cautious the first few times I petted her, as you never know when a frightened cat might scratch you. However, she has never struck out at me - she just doesn't want to be harmed, as she was clearly mistreated in the past. Once she gets to know you, she relaxes and is a real sweetheart.
