My Story

DRAKE was a brought in as a Stray. The person bringing him to us said he'd lived under her trailer his entire life. Amazingly this handsome, sleek boy was healthy, in spite of having little or no contact with any caregiver. When he arrived at the shelter, he was extremely frightened and seemed to think if he was very quiet, no one would notice him. He showed no aggression towards anyone or any of the other cats, and he showed no signs of having been abused by people or other cats. But having survived from kittenhood to being a two-year-old living outside, DRAKE obviously learned that to be invisible would keep him safe. Almost a year later, he still stays quiet, hoping no one notices him. He seems to wait until everything is quiet before venturing from his hiding place to eat. DRAKE does respond to a quiet voice and a gentle touch. He will make eye contact and slow blink with you when being petted. He will also reward you with a deep vibration in his chest (kind of a mix of a purr and a rumble). However, if held, he stiffens up and immediately goes to his safe place when you let him go. DRAKE has gone from a top shelf to a lower hiding space, so he seems to want to be part of, yet removed from the crowd. He is not aggressive, but being so afraid, he needs to be the only pet in a quiet, older household. DRAKE really needs someone who is willing to give him a quiet, non-threatening environment. His perfect person would be patient, non-demanding, allowing him time to trust that he is safe. Once he becomes comfortable with his new home and person, DRAKE should become the confident guy he could be the sweet companion he is meant to be.
