HISTORY: DOMINGO was a stray living in Nambe with an injured leg and eye when a kind lady took him in, fed him, and sought medical care for him from F&F. Upon arrival, he was found to be FIV positive (see ADDITIONAL INFORMATION below). TEMPERAMENT: DOMINGO is currently recovering from his wounds at our shelter. He is a very large fluffy boy who had to be shaved to remove matted fur. He was friendly with his rescuer, bumping his big head against her for attention. However, DOMINGO does not appreciate being handled and gave the vets a very hard time when they tried to treat his wounds. We do not yet know whether he likes other pets. He will need a patient adopter willing to give him time to get comfortable in a new living situation. While conventional thinking is to only place an FIV+ cat in a home with no other cats or with another FIV+ cat, there are many mixed households. According to Cornell University, the primary mode of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) transmission is through repeated fights resulting in the exchange of blood, and it poses no threat to humans or other species.
