My Story

Meet Derek (formerly known as Gretel until we realized "she" was really a "he"... oops, sorry Derek!) and Hansel. Both are neutered, up-to-date with vaccinations, flea preventative and are micro-chipped). They are fully litterbox trained. The Vet thinks Derek was born in July 2023 and Hansel, May 2023 These boys were found together, dumped at a nature preserve, starving, dehydrated, confused and scared. Despite not being related (Hansel is about 6-8 weeks older) they are VERY bonded. They eat, sleep, play, groom and pretty much do everything together, are best friends and essentially brothers. Their bond is such that the decision was made not to separate them and to adopt them out together. Unlike dogs, cats can share everything; food, water bowls, toys, litterboxes, etc. without fighting so no need to double up on supplies or monitor feeding or play time. They are both incredibly sweet and very playful. Derek is very high energy, always looking for fun and adventure and despite being younger, is clearly the alpha of the two. Hansel is much more easy-going and just along for the ride with Derek's adventures, mellow and a total lap cat. These boys have clearly been handled from a very young age, exhibiting no feral characteristics at all. They've not been around dogs or small children so don't know how they would react. They're both so friendly and easy-going we suspect they would be fine with proper, slow introductions with well-mannered dogs and older kids. Clearly someone loved and cared for them at some point and we are absolutely baffled they were abandoned to fend for themselves where they likely would have starved to death, been a meal for wild animals, hit by a car, etc.. The heartless cruelty by whoever subjected them to this fate is just mind-boggling. There likely were others dumped with them; cats are always born in multiples, but no more were found and likely didn't survive. If you're looking for fun, excitement, love, loyalty, lap/desk/bed buddies, Hansel and Derek are your boys!
