My Story

Daisy is a domestic short haired, tortoiseshell-tabby with white, spayed female cat who is estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old as of June 2024. Daisy was rescued approximately 2 years ago (fall 2023) from a hoarding situation. She was traumatized from her living conditions with an overpopulation of sick, unvaccinated and intact cats in an extremely small living space with intense competition for food resources. Daisy's rescuer worked with her for 9 months and decided that Daisy was feral, so Daisy was placed in a barn home for a year. Daisy was a good working barn cat where she hunted rodents, and even befriended the farm dog. Unfortunately, she did not venture more than 20 feet from the barn ever. When another cat would come into her territory, Daisy would hide for days in the rafters without water or food. She is terrified of most any other cat. She literally shakes in fear when she sees another cat, exception being old, lazy neutered males who ignore her. Daisy is looking for a patient, quiet, loving home. She did learn to like being petted! She is good with large dogs. Due to her past history, she is not too comfortable with cats. If she were to be with another cat, the cat needs to be not obtrusive or dominant. In May 2024, Daisy's initial rescuer decided to bring her inside a home to see how she would do. Daisy hid for about two weeks in the recliner. With treats and no pressure to socialize she has really learned to love affection. She still will startle easily with new sounds or sudden movements. Daisy is a perfect house guest. She consistently uses the litterbox. Scratches on the available scratching post. Does not scratch furniture or window screens. Daisy will sit in the window for hours watching the outdoors. Daisy is a champion fly hunter and will do side flips in the air to catch them. Spayed; negative for both feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus; vaccinated; and treated for any parasites. At the time of her spay Daisy was ear tipped to provide a visual cue as an outdoor cat that she had been de-sexed. Daisy needs a patient adopter who will give her the time and space to adjust from the transition of a hoarding situation, to a barn cat life, and a return to a normal indoor housecat life. She has had a lot of trauma in her early life and is slowly recovering. Adoption fee is waived for the right home. Location: Detroit Lakes, MN area. Transport to the Fargo, ND / Moorhead, MN area can be arranged.
