My Story

Can't adopt but want to help? Please contact [email protected] to find out about sponsoring or fostering Claire.

You can save cats like Claire by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save cats before they are euthanized at the shelters, so that they have more time to find a permanent family. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please click here and email the questionnaire to [email protected].

In February 2010, Claire was found roaming the streets of Silver Spring, MD. (Remember all of that snow?!) Claire was taken to a shelter, and in May 2010, she joined the Homeward Trails family. Claire came to her foster home two days after the TV show LOST came to an end, so she was named for a character of the show as a tribute to that show. If you’re a LOST fan, you know that Claire kinda turned crazy after some time on the island. Well, cat Claire is a bit crazy too – crazy sweet that is. Wow, what a loving cat. As a long-time foster, I have a phrase to describe cats like Claire: “out of the box.” That means that you can take her home, open the cat carrier, and she immediately fits into your home. That’s exactly what happened when she came to her foster home. She made a few cat friends in a matter of hours.

Claire is a medium haired black cat and she’s just as cute as she is sweet. She’s easy to pick up and carry around, and she’s a chirper. You can always tell when she’s coming around as you can hear her chirping. Because she is so social, Claire MUST be adopted into a home with at least one other cat. Claire’s foster home does not have a dog, so we have no idea how she’d do with a dog.
