My Story

Aloha, My name is Bootsy, and I am a character! I love to play and purr like a jet engine! I am a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) rescue, which means that I have spent most of my short life on the streets. A rescue group in Hawaii fixed me at one point, then released me back to the street where I was found. However, because I am such an outgoing and friendly little man a sweet lady thought I would be a good candidate for rescue! So, she contacted AKTNR, and they said that they would help find me a home! I was taken to the vet, vaccinated, treated for worms, and fleas and tested to FIV/FeLV. Unfortunately, I did test positive for FIV, which is not very surprising because I spent so much time on my own on the street. With all that said though, I have no other health issues and I am in very good condition. If you didn't know, FIV in an auto immune disease which attacks the immune system, this leaves me vulnerable to other infections. Though there is no cure for FIV, recent studies suggest that cats with FIV commonly live average life spans, as long as they are not also infected with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) which I do not have. I also need to minimize my exposure to other illnesses and receive regular medical care. FIV is transmitted through bite wounds from an infected cat, it cannot spread to humans or other animals. But great news I am not aggressive, I do not hiss, bite or growl, and casual, non-aggressive contact, such as sharing water bowls or mutual grooming, does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, I could go to a home with another friendly cat, though it might be better for my health and maybe peace of mind to be an only cat or to go to a home with another cat with FIV or even a home with friendly dogs. As mentioned, I love to play, I love toys and pets and am just a super friendly boy! I am also litterbox trained, neutered, vaccinated for Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV, and microchipped. As a reminder I am FeLV negative, so that is also great news. All I need now is you and your family to take me home! If you are looking to really change a life (mine) but are also ready for your life to be changed by my purest love, then give the rescue a call or shoot them an email! I hope to meet you soon! Sometimes Petfinder emails go to spam or junk mail so if you have reached out and are waiting on a response, please check your other folders. Or give us a call or text! Thank you! ~ AKTNR
