She is a 4 year old silver shaded. Sweet, kind, gentle and a wonderful little lap cat! She was passed on to a shelter because of she was not using the litter box. She stopped eating and started a cold and was transferred to AAM. She was treated for a urinary tract infection but with no changes. Blood tests, x-rays and lab results showed bladder stones and she had her surgery. She had Calcium Oxalate stones which cannot be dissolved with special diets. Surgery was needed to remove any stones too large to pass.Total Medical costs $800.00. Bea is now on urinary S/O by Medi Cal. She will have to be on a protein restricted alkalinizing diet. Such foods are high in fiber, not restricted in phosphorus, and mildly restricted in protein. Hills x/d diet, Royal Canin (formerly Waltham) S/O, Iams Eukanuba Moderate pH pH/O are all appropriate foods. Canned diet is preferred over dry food due to the high water content of canned foods. Part of the goal is to create a dilute urine and the extra water consumption is helpful. Meal feeding rather than free feeding also may be helpful in maintaining the desired urinary pH.
