Update on Astro (now named Rocket, which fits his demeanor!)
Rocket quickly settled into his foster home in FL, a reflection of how easy-going/adaptable he is.
While Rocket is 1 year 9 months old, he acts like a much younger cat. He is energetic, inquisitive, playful, gregarious with other cats, and super smart (eg, learned to run on a cat wheel in 2 days without seeing another cat use it; refer to video). He is a character, full of surprises (in a good way) every day. He loves to play fetch with a mouse (like a dog), and can be happy playing by himself, batting virtually anything around the floor (like he’s playing hockey).
Born with a digestive disorder, initially diagnosed as mega colon, Rocket is doing very well (formed stools) on a diet of only Hills I/D wet food into which liquid prescription medication is mixed; he eats in 4 meals per day. He will begin weaning off the medicines in 2 weeks time. In the best-case scenario, he will not need or will require less medication in the future. It’s not a big issue should he need the medication in the long-term, as he’s a good eater!
Rocket is neutered, up-to-date on well check/routine labs/vaccines, and is FeLV/FIV negative. He uses a high-walled litter box without lid, 100% of the time, with no issues.
Ideal Home: His human(s) work from home or are retired, no young children. Rocket will do best in a home with other cats (his loves playmates, human or feline will do). His current foster has no dogs, but he previously “tolerated” a laid-back dog.
Rocket will be with his foster family in Boca Raton, FL until the end of May and will then go with them to Detroit, MI for the summer. He can be adopted now by a family who lives in FL or in June by a family who lives in the mid-West, in which case the foster can help with transportation. Or, he can be transported to a forever home between FL and MI (near interstate 75) the first week of June.
