My Story

Tookie is a 25 year old female Moluccan, or Seram, cockatoo. She is looking for her next Phoenix Landing home. Moluccans are the largest of the cockatoos, and they can also be the loudest, so be prepared for this natural behavior. This means it is important to only give value the sounds you can live with, and not reinforce those you cannot. It is especially important to make sure birds, especially savvy cockatoos, have plenty of challenging activities and enrichment to keep them "gainfully employed!" Tookie enjoys strawberries, pineapple, celery, cucumber, watermelon and several other healthy whole foods. About 1/2 of her current diet is pelleted. She likes toys she can shred or wood she can plow threw - be prepared to be creative or invest in lots of enrichment! She is currently always around people in an active household. She only likes to have her head rubbed. She likes to whistle along with someone, she does the baseball theme whistle. Tookie knows what "up" is, when it's time to clean the cage you can say "up" so that she goes to the highest perch. She will drink water from a faucet. If you knock she will knock as well. She likes to play fetch. Tookie never leaves her cage, she will climb out and go on top never wanders too far. We recommend adding some additional play areas, and perhaps things hanging from the ceiling, to give her more diverse activity areas. Like many parrots she has a little bit of a bare chest. IMPORTANT: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots. She is an especially good fit for someone who works from home, as she enjoys to be around people, but she doesn’t need to be the center of attention. To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adoptAREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events Thanks for helping parrots!
