My Story

Sunny Boy is an 12 year old male sun conure, although exact age unknown because his person died and we have no background information. He has been to an avian vet and seems in good health other than his left eye lens which may have some sight impairment. Sunny Boy is a sweet bird who likes be in the same room as his people, he would prefer a home with other birds, even if they are different species. He loves taking a bath under the kitchen faucet and enjoys a lullaby and exchanging kissing sounds at bedtime. An excellent flyer, he may choose your head as his landing spot. But not for long, he’s a busy boy and will off to another favorite spot in a few. Sunny Boy loves to learn. He has become quite adept at target training for such actions as moving from his regular cage to his transport cage. His preferred target is a chopstick and he loves almond slivers, millet, and Avi-Cake as a reward. So far he loves all flavors of Nutri-berries and even gives pellets a try. So far his favorite fruits are apple and green grapes. We are working on veggies as well, but we have not quite found any he likes ...yet. With summer coming, we will have lots of choices. Baths are one of his favorite games. He loves a bath where he can submerge his whole chest, flap his wings and even blow some bubbles. He’s learning all about toys and has been concentrating on a seagrass bag full of goodies. He’s tried wooden toys - but he always goes back to shredding the seagrass bag. Sunny Boy loves companionship, attention and learning! Sun conures can be louder and vocal than other conures, so that's good to know in advance. Sunny Boy is learning to eat real food and Nutri-berries, along with a healthy pellet. Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots. To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events Phoenix Landing offers educational classes and facilitates parrot adoptions in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northern Florida.
