My Story

The best way to learn more about our birds is to complete our parrot match application, found under the "Adoption" tab on our website, www.phoenixlanding.org. The nice volunteer who answers PetFinders inquiries cannot tell you about specific individuals. Sunny was adopted last year, but his family encountered some unexpected changes. But while with them, he learned some wonderful new skills - like how to be transported on a perch (still no hands, please!), to be more active to include loving his shreddable toys, to enjoy some time in a closed in porch with fresh air and sunlight. Sunny is an unusual variety, a brown throat native to Venezuela. He is at least 14 years old, his past is not totally clear. Sunny immediately took to Lafeber Avi-cakes and an improved diet. He can fly, which is a great skill for a bird to maintain for health and welfare. Sunny seems to have a gentle disposition too. LOVES crinkle paper balls; vine balls; seagrass mats with stuff; basically anything crunchy is good. Loves to chew on vine ball type toys. He gets started chewing up a toy and will industriously work on it for hours. He's still cautious of people but wants to be around where he can see and hear what is going on. He does have a 3 syllable sound that consistently seems to mean "whatcha doing?" He has a two syllable mutter that sounds a bit like step-up and uses that appropriately, which is really cute. Our process: after you complete a core class (recommended for anyone!) you will be connected with the adoption coordinator for your area. Attending one of our core parrot care classes is also required in order to adopt a parrot. A list of them may be found at https://www.phoenixlanding.org/events.html. Those classes that count as part of the adoption process are noted with an icon beside their title. Phoenix Landing offers educational classes and facilitates parrot adoptions in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northern Florida. Phoenix Landing does not ship birds.
