Sophie

Hello everyone! I am Sophie, a 16-year-old Umbrella Cockatoo with a big personality! I tend to pick only one person to bond with in a family- and I will sneak attack anyone else, so USE CAUTION. My foster parents were warned about this, but I still surprised “dad” and got his nose! I usually put my crown up before I get ready to bite. I love to talk and sing (I sing, Jesus Loves Me, no matter what is playing). I have a little vocabulary and will say a few phrases pretty well. I will tell you, “gotta go potty,” so you know to bring me back to my perch. I will also say, “I love you”, “Sophie,” “go night night night,” “bad bird,” (My foster mom always tells me I am a good bird when I say that). When I get sassy, I really start grumbling. If I get anxious or want attention, I will scream loudly! For this reason, I cannot be adopted in a home with shared walls and is not recommended for anyone who works from home (if you are on calls or zoom often). I will tolerate dogs and cats but if they go near my cage, I will yell at them to, “get out of here, Luna!” I also say, “Hi Luna!” Luna was my previous owner’s dog. I will also say, “bad dog,” if I don’t want pets around my cage. I LOVE giving kisses, but I do display mating behaviors, which my foster mom is trying to redirect. When I am insistent, my foster mom puts me back in my cage to calm down. It’s important only to pet me on my head and neck. I love attention and would love a home where I can spend a lot of time either being held or maybe perching nearby my human. When I came to my foster home, I came with a gigantic bag of Zupreem and that’s all I have ever eaten. My foster parents have tried fresh food and some nuts, but I haven’t eaten any of it yet- but they keep trying! I am a very wasteful eater and will shovel my food out, so I am only fed a little at a time. For that reason, my foster parents check my dish often to make sure I have a steady supply of food in my dish. I love wooden toys that I can destroy. It's so much fun and keeps me entertained and stimulated! Another thing I love is being outside! As long as it’s not too cold out, I love spending time in my outside cage. You’ll hear me talking to myself and living my best life out there. I also enjoy getting baths. At sundown I am usually ready to be covered up for the night and am typically ok with having the TV on or other noise. I am a really amazing, lovable cockatoo that needs an experienced owner who isn’t afraid of getting close. If I sense hesitancy or fear, I will react adversely and possibly bite. I will dominate you if you let me, but if I know who is in charge, I accept it. I deserve a loving human that wants to interact with me and spend time with me daily. I do not require someone who is home all day, just someone willing to be there for me when they are home to give me lots of attention. If you fit this description, fill out an application below!
