My Story

As the first days of spring drift into view, with winter’s chill still in the air, the rhubarb stalks push through the soil and reach skywards. While frost still lingers and most buds remain snugly closed, the pale rhubarb grows steadily on and turns deep crimson in triumph. Just like her namesake, brave rhubarb the pigeon persevered through difficult circumstances, managing to stay alive with a fractured femur until she was rescued. Unlike most pigeons, who want to rest while they heal, Rhubarb wasn’t ready to slow down one bit! She wanted to explore her new surroundings and begin her physical therapy right away. While she will always have a slight limp and some limited functionality in her right leg, Rhubarb sallies forth with boundless energy and resilience. Just like the fruit, Rhubarb is both sweet and tart - quiet at some times, boisterous in others. She’s ready to bounce into her new life with her adoptive flock!
