My Story

Meet Puffin! She's a female Triton Cockatoo in her 20s, who is a big girl with a fun personality, a ton of intelligence, and, admittedly, a lot of opinions that we have politely asked to keep to herself but I don't think she cares about our opinions as much as we care about hers! If she likes you, she'll tell us, and if she doesn't, you best believe she'll tell us that, too! One stance she's taken that she will not waver from: she is NOT the bird for you if you have children in the house, or even children who often visit the house. You know that movie where the guy hunts people for sport? That is Puffin, with children, and there is no escape. She's not a bird who will likely handle well with every member of the household, so someone with large cockatoo experience, or a lot of iron-strong determination to learn, would do best with her. She could be a good bird to harness train and take along with you to places, but again, she'll tell you if she's not happy and she's not afraid to use that wicked strong beak to get her point across. She's funny, dramatic, and fully-flighted and she's just looking to mesh with the right family who will embrace that giant personality she's excited to share. Puffin will require a cage AT MINIMUM twice her wingspan (77"). An 80x40 would suit her well. Bonus points if you also have an additional outdoor aviary. $200 of Puffin's adoption fee will go to enrolling her new family in Level One and The Parrot Project at The Animal Behavior Center to provide plenty of online support and educated guidance. ***If you're interested in Puffin please fill out an application at http://heartcockatooranch.org, and provide a home video of the main areas she'll be living. Videos can be sent through Cockatoo Ranch on Facebook messenger, or to [email protected]. Video must show other birds in the home if there are any, the cage if you have one, and the general living area where the bird will be. We're not judging any laundry on the couch or dishes in the sink - we swear! We just want to get a sense of a potential new home and ensure it's set up for success***
