Hello everyone! I’m PJ, a charming 4-year-old cockatiel. ? I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 6/1/24 at the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Beloit. Originally purchased at a pet shop, I was surrendered due to my owner’s health issues.

Care Tips for Cockatiels:
? Housing: I need a spacious cage with plenty of room to stretch my wings, climb, and play. The cage should be at least 24x24 inches and 24 inches tall. Ensure the bars are close enough together to prevent any escape attempts.
? Environment: Place my cage in a bright, lively area of your home where I can be part of the family. Avoid placing the cage in drafty areas or direct sunlight.
?? Diet: Provide me with a balanced diet of high-quality cockatiel pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Treats like millet spray and occasional seeds are great, but should be given in moderation. Always provide fresh water.
? Enrichment: I love toys and activities! Provide a variety of toys like bells, mirrors, and chew toys to keep me entertained. Rotate toys regularly to prevent boredom. I also enjoy out-of-cage time to explore and interact with you.
? Health Care: Regularly clean my cage, food dishes, and water bottles to ensure a healthy environment. Keep an eye on my behavior and health, and take me to the vet for regular check-ups and if any health issues arise.
?? Socialization: I thrive on social interaction and enjoy whistling and mimicking sounds. Spend quality time with me daily to strengthen our bond. Talk to me, whistle, and provide gentle head scratches.
? Safety: Ensure my living area is safe from potential hazards like toxic plants, open windows, and other pets that might pose a threat.
