Pickles Aka Godzilla

When Pickles [Amazona farinosa] first came to us, he was named Godzilla, and we were told by the woman who relinquished him that he'd had 14 homes in his first 10 years. She said she got him at a bird club sale. She brought him to us because she said that she didn't want to return him to the club to be adopted out to someone like her who knew nothing about caring for a large Amazon. She said that her young children liked Pickles, and it was clear to us by their interaction with him and the bird's behavior with them, that Pickles really liked them. We learned several months later that his name was Pickles as he started talking about himself and used that name. Pickles is big, and he needs a large, macaw sized cage. Spending time outside is important for his well-being. He enjoys the company of other birds. He is used to stepping up with many of our staff and remains a long time favorite.
