My Story

Hi there! I am Peaches, the Cockatiel. My former owner loved me very much but sadly could no longer care for me so here I am, hoping to find my forever family. Will you be my new family? I don’t know my exact hatch day, but I was purchased from a pet store in 2013 and I have laid eggs in the past, so I'm a female. It’s important for me to tell you that although I am a very sweet bird, I have never been tame. That means I was never taught how to be a playful, hands-on pet bird. I don’t want to be handled or be on your shoulder. Instead, I prefer to be in my happy place, my cage, because that’s where I have felt most safe for the last 11 years. My foster family has been working with me each day so I hope to find a family that will continue helping me gain trust and confidence. With consistency I may learn that coming out of my cage isn’t so scary after all. I am, like most female cockatiels tend to be, on the quieter side. I don’t sing songs or make much noise. But, if you are on the phone or turn the TV on, I will chirp a bit at first because I get a little jealous. Luckily for you, it’s not too loud and doesn’t last long. I am on a seed diet and have been my entire life. My foster family has tried to introduce pellets, vegetables and fruit but they all gross and I don’t want to go anywhere near that yucky stuff! Lately my foster family has been trying to trick me by mixing those yucky pellet things into my seeds - but I won’t be fooled - I eat around the yucky stuff. Spray Millet is the only treat I prefer. I am not used to many toys, but I like the ones with paper strips that I can pull out. I went to the vet for the first time this month and they said I am a healthy girl! But I do need to have soft perches (or perches covered in vet wrap) because my feet are very sensitive (I am also missing a toe). My foster family will provide more details about my feet when you meet me. The perfect home for me would be one that is quieter and where everyone respects that I don’t want physical contact but is also willing to work with me daily. If you read books, sew, knit or do crafts, I would love for my cage to be right near you so I can watch - people watching is my favorite thing to do but I do get startled easily if there is a loud noise! If you would love a very easy to care for companion bird, then I am the girl for you! Fill out the application below so we can meet!   Peaches would love a "Welcome to Foster" gift.
