My Story

Hello! I am Papaya- a 3-year-old Pineapple Green-cheeked Conure. My friends call me “Pie” which is sweet- like me! My foster mom keeps saying to me—"My oh my, I love Pie!” I love that and one day, I am going to learn to say it on my own. My original family had to move out of the country (for the military), and I was not allowed to go with them. They loved me very much, so they found Florida Parrot Rescue to help me meet my new person and be safe and happy! So let me tell you a bit about me…. I LOVE taking a bath! I have a big water bowl that is just perfect for my daily (or sometimes every other day) bath. I like to splash and flap and get all wet. My foster mom says it’s nice that I am such a clean birdie. I just know it’s fun! But I also really like getting petted on my ears and head. Snuggling and smooching is my M.O. but please ask me “Pet the Bird?” before starting, so that I understand what you are doing. The vacuum makes fun noise, so I do get excited when that goes on, and I like to dance and bob around with a tweet or two. My first family had dogs and small humans too, and I was fine with them. My foster family has cats- they don’t bother me either. I’m just easy going like that! I do know what “Step Up” means and will get on your finger when asked. Also, step off means to get off of your hand. My foster mom is trying to teach me how to say human words like “Good morning” and “Hi Pie” but I am young and still trying to figure it out. I know that I will get the hang of English soon. Before I arrived here, I only got seed mix to eat, which I hear is like “junk food.” So foster mom is getting me to eat NutriBerries and Avi-Cakes with fresh veggies and fruits. She keeps wanting me to eat these pellet things, but so far, I am not a big fan of those, but I crunch some just to make her happy. I guess that I have to work on that. Everyone who meets me says that I am a beautiful and very sweet fellow! Foster mom says that I am the quietest little bird that she has ever met. She thinks that I would be perfect for a person who works from home or lives in an apartment because I am not a noisy bird at all! My vet-doctor said that I am a happy and healthy bird, too. So, if you are in need of a calm, quiet, sweet, friendly and good-looking bird- here I am!! Papaya would love a "Welcome to Foster" gift.
