My Story

Ollie and Scruffy are Goffin's Cockatoos who are the best of friends looking for a new forever home where they can stay together. Ollie loves to play. He has a plastic ball toy in the cage that he likes to pull back let it go and let it swing and hit the side of the cage. That little trick is almost always accompanied by a happy chirp and wing stretches. He is developing a real talent in shredding and pulling apart his big hemp rope. Ollie is a real glutton for a banana piece and blueberries. He likes to peel the banana and take his time nibbling away. The pair are still a litte nervous of humans and theiir foster mom continues to work on building a trusting relationship with the cockatoo pair through positive training techniques which is especially rewarding to a parrot 's intellect. Ollie is getting braver about coming closer and will sit eating the banana while his foster mom sits next to the cage. We are getting ready to work on stepping up to the human hand. Scruffy is Ollie's braver brother. He loves to shred his shreddable toys. His greatest delight is to rip pages out of the phone books that hang in the cage accompanied by a happy toot and wing flaps when he has a pile of pages down in the bottom. Scruffy enjoys his supervised out of cage time and likes to run around on the top of the cage. He's learned to come out of their cage to sit on the nearby parrot tree where he enjoys a healthy Nutriberry treat for which he's developed a real taste! He is teaching Ollie to be brave and leave the cage for treats. Both Ollie and Scruffy have a real delight in music and bob along when a favorite tune comes on. They are still a litte nervous of humans and theiir foster mom continues to work on building a trusting relationship with the cockatoo pair through positive training techniques which is especially rewarding to a parrot 's intellect. Next we will be working on accepting treats from the teacher and stepping up to a human hand. We removed this pair along with 3 other parrots from a very sad situation. PEARL's rescue team was contacted to help and found them living in horrid conditions. Ollie was living ontop of Scruffy's cage and after several weeks of quarantining in separate cages pending vet clearance, the two did not appear to be bonded to each other. After moving them into separate foster homes, they both told us otherwise! They have since been reunited and couldn't be happier to be back together. Ollie and Scruffy will need to be adopted together and stay together. They are definitely not happy when they are apart and aren't afraid to tell you about it! You can learn more about Scruffy by visiting his PEARL bio page. These beautfiul cockatoos will need a patient home that is willing to give them the space and life they so deserve. The recommended habitat for a Goffin's cockatoo pair is a cage with plenty of room to move around and stretch their wings. Ollie and Scruffy have appropriate accomodations in their foster home, currently sharing an 80"x40"x80" cage with a variety of perching and fun toys to challenge their intellect plus supervised out of cage time to explore. Keep in mind that in general, cockatoos can be loud, and their vocalizations mainly occur in the morning and evening. It is normal for parrots to call out to their flock mates first thing in the morning and at the end of the day. *********************************************************************************************************************** Ollie and Scuffy are available for adoption!
