My Story

Hi everybody! My name is Midoriya, and I am a beautiful Quaker parrot. My foster family looked up the meaning of my name and it is Japanese for "Green Valley". Now I don't claim to have ever lived in a valley but I am Green so we will go with that! It makes me feel special with such a cool name. I came into Florida Parrot Rescue after my wonderful friend and caretaker helped with my rehabilitation. I was found outside with several wing fractures as well as contusions on my keel. I was very sweet at the beginning but after so much treatment, I am now very shy of hands. I am cage aggressive of course because I am a Quaker and that is what we do! Once I am outside my cage, I am generally fine but since arriving at my foster family's house I have yet to want to come out. This is a work in progress since trust is a big issue at this point. Please don't let that deter you; I am really fun to watch and just need time to get to know you and I know I will be a great fun bird for you to be around! I love bells! I have two dumbbell shaped toys with jingles on either end that I lift up and down, doing my exercises! I also like to lie on my back and wave it around with my feet! I do try to say my name. I can say "What'cha doing"? and I like to wolf whistle and laugh. I also just love to garble and make funny noises, who knows maybe I am speaking Japanese? The vet thinks I am pretty young, and Quakers can live up into their late 20's. I would be best in a home without dogs or cats although my foster family's dog does not bother me, I just squawk right back at him! I would also do best in a home with someone who has had Quakers before or previous bird experience and understand that cage aggression is typical of the breed. I am eating a healthy diet of Harrison's pellets. I am trying to consider veggies and they are not half bad! I do like a little bit of watermelon once in a while and also a (treat only) of Lafeber Nutriberries. If you would like to meet me and see what you think please fill out an application below! Midoriya would love a new toy or treat from his wishlist!
