My Story

Lenny is a five year old male umbrella cockatoo, who can be on the aggressive side when he's not getting his way. Lenny is known as an escape artist, who talks quite a bit. The right person for Lenny will be a female caretaker, willing to learn the proper way to handle a cockatoo, and who will understand that cuddling and male cockatoos is dangerous and sexually stimulating for them. He needs someone who is firm but gentle that will teach him boundaries using positive reinforcement methods. Cockatoos are not usually treat motivated, so the person who takes on Lenny will want to understand how to use affection as a reward within the bounds of what is appropriate for a cockatoo. Applying for cockatoos through the rescue is not as hard as one might think. We just want you to demonstrate you understand and are willing to work through issues as they come up. Cockatoos are known to be difficult animals to care for due to noise and danger level. We are willing to educate the right people, even if you're new - but you'll have to demonstrate that knowledge before taking a cockatoo home. We're told Lenny hates men - but we've found him to be equally cantankerous with both males and females. We think he'll be much calmer in a home environment without all the chaos of a shelter. If you’re interested in adopting the Lenny put your application in at www.birdsandbeaks.org/adopt We have an adoption radius of 350 miles of Battle Creek, Michigan but will expand for the right homes.  We never ship birds, and if you’re out side that radius, the contract you sign will require you to bring her back to the rescue at your expense if for any reason it doesn’t work out. No matter who you adopt from, know that no rescue is shipping birds that is reputable, and that anyone who says they’ll ship you a bird is likely telling you whatever you need to hear to scam you.  Don’t send money over the internet for animals.  Meet in person or not at all. Stay safe! #birdpower #birdbitch #parrotrescue #birdrescue #parrotsofinstagram #parrotsoftiktok #birdsandbeaksnation
