My Story

When we first met this back-of-the-head-bald little guy, he just felt like a “Friar Tuck” kind of cockatiel. At least, from all outward appearances, he seems to be a “guy” rather than a “gal”, and we are unsure of his age as well – we’ve asked, and he’s not saying! Currently he is eating Zupreem Fruit Blend, along with millet, but his new family will want to introduce him to fresh veggies, cooked legumes, and grains to maintain his youthful attitude. In his previous home, Friar Tuck was rarely caged, and free to fly in a small room with many other birds (this is not something we recommend). We have him in a nice cage now with another ‘tiel (Robin of Loxley), but they are not bonded. Friar Tuck’s foster reports that he seems interested in human company, and will come to the front of the cage if you talk to him and don’t show your hands. He makes little cockatiel squeaks, and while he doesn’t love bathing, he seems to tolerate spray baths (which he desperately needs on a regular basis). His foster thinks he would make a great little friend for someone who is willing to work with him, or could be just as happy as a “hands-off” bird in a large flight cage with other cockatiels. Prior to finalizing the adoption, his new family will need to provide an appropriate cage for Friar Tuck. We adopt to families living within 90 minutes of the Omaha metro area. We never ship birds.
