My Story

After losing sight in his left eye, it was understandably very challenging for Emile to navigate the hazardous city streets. While he can still fly, difficulties with depth perception may have resulted in one of the cruel “pigeon spikes” used as an inhumane bird deterrent piercing Emile’s chest as he tried to land. We know for sure that Emile was found struggling to survive with a deep, old, infected wound in his chest. Emile needed complex wound care as well as around the clock antibiotics to help his tiny body fight off the infection. Emile prevailed, with only his blind left eye and a small scar on his chest to tell the story. Emile is no more than 2 years old, and after such trials at such a young age it’s no wonder he now prefers a quiet life! While Emile can fly again, he doesn’t choose to do so very often, preferring to pick a favorite spot for the day, usually a bookshelf close by his foster mom’s desk, where he can relax, nap, and peacefully observe the household comings and goings. He’s a very social little guy, in a polite and understated way - he listens attentively to your stories, and will occasionally offer a quiet remark to reassure you he’s following along! Emile is renowned for watching his foster mom’s computer screen very closely during the workday and tilting his head in curiosity- he has an exceptionally expressive, adorable face! Emile is a delightful and loyal companion who is eager to find his very own human coo-worker to enjoy his company every day!
