My Story

Where the city is a hard place for feral pigeons we also meet the tranquility of green spaces, like Humboldt Park. It's a haven for many creatures, both wild and domesticated, and a refuge for those seeking solace amid the urban chaos. Among its many inhabitants was a pigeon named Darby, whose journey of survival and resilience became legendary. Darby wasn't an ordinary pigeon. His life began much like any other feral pigeon, navigating the skies of Chicago and scavenging for food. However, his fate took a turn for the worse one fateful day when he got entangled in a piece of string. The string wrapped tightly around his delicate feet, causing excruciating pain and hindering his ability to fly and forage properly. This incident, known as stringfoot, is a common yet devastating plight for urban pigeons, often leading to severe injuries if left untreated. The once vibrant and free-spirited pigeon now struggled for survival, often finding refuge under benches or in the shadows of bushes in Humboldt Park. It seemed like Darby's days were numbered until a miracle happened. One day, a kind-hearted passerby noticed the struggling pigeon, and took Darby in. And now this sweet, gentle loving Pigeon who is all better and in need of love, is looking for his forever home! Darby’s favorite activities include playing with his toys and sitting in his foster mom’s lap, and he eagerly awaits the continuation of his new life in the lap of his very own forever person!
