My Story

Hi, my name is Cooli and I am a 30-year-old Umbrella Cockatoo. I am an outgoing social guy who loves nothing more than to spend time with you and be part of all the goings on in the house. My foster parents have lots of birds and I am okay with them. I have never really been around cats or dogs so I don’t know how I would be around them. I am considered special needs because even though I am a boy, I have a history of prolapse. It has been a long time since I have had a prolapse event and with the proper care and handling it is likely that I will not have another one. I have a hormone implant which will probably need to be replaced occasionally, and I get a small dose of melatonin at night to help keep me calm. I take my melatonin like a champ without fuss or fighting. My foster mom tells me all the time what an easygoing guy I am. If I come to live with you, I will need to be handled properly. No pets on the back or under the wings and I am easy to redirect when I get frisky. I am a fussy eater, but my foster mom is working on that. I came into rescue on a diet of mainly nuts and a few pellets occasionally. I do eat veggies and fruits. I especially like apples and grapes, cantaloupe, cherries and I will pick at chop but like sweet potatoes, corn, green beans and cooked foods like bird street bistro or Higgins worldly cuisine. Walnuts are one of my favorite treats! I love to dance and when you wave at me, I will wave back with my foot. I don’t talk a lot, but I do say, "Hi Cooli", "Cooli is a good bird", and a couple other things that my foster parents haven’t quite figured out yet. I can be loud if I can’t see you or if I spend too much time in my cage, so I am not suitable for an apartment, condo or townhouse. I do not need someone who is home all day, but I need someone who will spend time with me when they are home. I need lots of time out of my cage and I love to be on my Java stand in the porch where I can see all the trees and outside birds and catch some rays. I like a spray bath with a mister, and I love to chew my wood toys and play with foot toys. I do not have a preference for either men or women. My previous owner was a man and I have easily bonded to my foster mom. So, if you think you might want an easy-going guy to join your family, please come and meet me because I would love to find my forever family soon! Cooli would love a "Welcome to Foster" gift.
