My Story

Hi! Meet Chiri & Monti. Chiri is a female cinnamon pied cockatiel hatched in 2018. Monti is a male pearl pied cockatiel hatched in 2020. Chiri and Monti have a roomy and well-equipped cage full of toys, perches, shelves and ladders. They like to spend their days in or on top of the cage with the door open. Chiri usually comes out and will walk around on the top of the cage, then will climb up on their cage top perch to look outside or just watch the activities in the home. Monti will usually follow soon after as he always wants to be close to Chiri. They are used to having their cage door open for most of the day, but when the door has to stay closed, they are quite content to spend time in their cage together as it is a spacious cage with lots of room for them. Both birds are fairly quiet, however Chiri will chirp in the mornings, Monti will also answer her. On the rare occasion that Monti does sing, it’s a beautiful melody in which he seems to never take a breath, and it goes on and on. Chiri and Monti are not afraid of people or being handled, they just prefer to not be handled, if at all possible. They prefer each other’s company over human companionship. Neither bird will bite. You can walk right up to them in/on the cage or have your hand in the cage to change paper, clean, or service water and food bowls, and they won’t react, but if you try to touch them or ask them to step up, they will both move away whether they are together or separate. If either bird has fluttered to the floor or off the cage somewhere, they will call to each other, Chiri will step up on your finger to be returned to the cage. Monti will not step up, but he will allow you to gently pick him up without a struggle. Both birds are also perch trained and will easily step up if offered a perch by hand. They love to have their cage rolled outdoors onto the covered and screened in lanai for several hours a day (weather permitting). Chiri will pace back and forth on top of the cage in the morning to be taken outside. Monti is fairly indifferent as long as Chiri isn’t too far away. They definitely prefer to be with their cage than away from it, though Chiri has taken a couple flutters to the nearby lamp or furniture. Monti will let us know she’s moved as he hollers for her until she is returned. Chiri and Monti enjoy their bedtime routine and prefer to go to bed fairly early. They get covered between 730-8 pm each night. Their foster family ensures that they get minimum 12-13 hours of darkness to deter any hormonal or breeding behavior. When Chiri and Monti arrived in foster care, they would only will eat seed or millet, however their foster family has been offering them different pellet varieties and fresh fruit and vegetables every day, as well as chop, and slowly but surely, they are both starting to enjoy their fresh foods! Chiri and Monti are a very easy pair of birds that don’t ask for much. They prefer each other’s companionship more than wanting human attention, which makes them super easy to care for. They would love to be adopted and placed in the main room of their forever home where they can enjoy ambient attention from their human family.
