My Story

Casper is a Goffin's cockatoo (also known as a Tanimbar corella), and while we don't know his exact age, we believe he is older than 10 at least. In his previous home, he was housed in a room with three (boisterous and big) umbrella cockatoos, and it has taken some time for Casper to come out of his shell, so to speak. Casper is still unsure about many things (his foster recently got a new ring, and he would not go near her until she took it off!), and when stressed, he does have a habit of plucking to the point of self mutilation. He can be noisy, particularly if he feels ignored and at dawn and dusk, so his new home must not have any shared walls with neighbors. Casper will step up when asked (unless you are wearing a new ring!), and he doesn't fight returning to his cage when need be. He does need to have a few hours of out of cage time every day, which helps with his anxiety. He just wants to be included in family life! Casper's foster has identified several toys that Casper quite enjoys; they help him self-entertain and refrain from plucking behaviors. We adopt to families living within 90 minutes of the Omaha metro area. We never ship birds. Please visit us at www.heartlandavianrescueproject.org for additional information!
