My Story

Aengus is a 13 year old male red-fronted macaw. He is high energy and needs a wide variety of activities and enrichment. Aengus really enjoys metallic toys - buckets, bells, toys with wing nuts. Without substantial activites, he will be bored and resort to yelling, not a behavior we want to encourage or respond to with any parrot, especially macaws with loud voices! He really appreciates being around other birds and this can help minimize excessive screaming too Male macaws also tend to pick "one" that they consider most favorite. That's ok as long as you don't make it a pair-bond kind of relationship and just stay friends, and anyone else in the family understands they may need to give plenty of space and respect for this natural behavior. He's very motivated by attention, so target training and trick training are perfect for smart macaws like him. IMPORTANT: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots. She is an especially good fit for someone who works from home, as she enjoys to be around people, but she doesn’t need to be the center of attention. To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adoptAREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events Thanks for helping parrots!
