Deera

Once upon a time, in the heart of Outsiders Farm & Sanctuary, there lived a young and innocent potbelly pig named Deera. Her journey to the sanctuary was not an easy one, as she faced numerous hardships before finding her way to safety. Deera's story with us began when she was just a six-month-old piglet, living with her family of 33 pigs. They belonged to a mentally ill woman who, unfortunately, couldn't provide them with the care they needed. Due to her circumstances, she couldn't get her pet pigs spayed or neutered, resulting in their numbers growing out of control. As time passed, the pigs gradually took over the woman's entire home. With no fenced yard to protect them, they started breeding with wild pigs, the lack of fence was also making them vulnerable to attacks from dogs and even being shot by neighbors. It was a dire situation, and something needed to be done. Thankfully, a caring neighbor reached out to Outsiders Farm & Sanctuary, hoping they could intervene and save the innocent animals. Upon hearing about the plight of Deera and her piggy family, the sanctuary wasted no time. They knew they had to step in and provide a safe haven for these pigs in need. At the tender age of six months, Deera had never experienced human touch and had never been to a vet. She was completely unfamiliar with the love and care that humans could offer. However, with open hearts and gentle hands, the dedicated team at the sanctuary welcomed Deera and her 32 companions with open arms. Under the watchful eyes of the sanctuary staff, Deera and her family received the necessary medical attention they had long been denied. Each pig was spayed or neutered, ensuring that their numbers would not spiral out of control any further. With this crucial step completed, they were finally ready to embark on their journey towards finding forever homes. Deera, is naturally shy and reserved due to her limited human interaction, but we see immense potential in her. They believed that with patience, love, and dedication, Deera would blossom into a wonderful companion for anyone willing to open their heart and home to a pet pig. While her initial settling-in period might require some extra time and care, Deera's sweet and innocent nature make it all worthwhile. She longs for a family who would cherish her, showering her with the love and attention she truly deserves.
